Privacy Policy

Draft. This describes what the app actually does today, but it has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Get it reviewed before submitting to the App Store.

ROAM is a travel app for rating the cities and hotels you have stayed in and sharing those ratings with friends. This page explains what we store, why we store it, and who can see it.

What we collect

Your account

You sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address and password. We store your display name, username, and, if you add them, a profile photo, bio, location, and website.

What you create in the app

  • Ratings you give to cities and hotels, including scores and any photos you attach
  • Stories you post, which expire automatically after 24 hours
  • Direct messages you send to friends
  • Likes and comments you leave on posts
  • Places you save to your bucket list
  • Friend requests you send and accept

Your device

  • Location, only while you are using the app, to show where you are on the map and find cities near you. We do not track you in the background.
  • Camera and photo library, only when you choose to add a photo
  • Microphone, only when you record video for a story
  • A push notification token, so we can tell you about friend requests, likes, and comments

Who can see your ratings

Only people you have added as friends, and only once you have both accepted. There are no public profiles in ROAM. Someone who has sent you a request but who you have not accepted cannot see anything you have rated.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of services to run the app:

  • Supabase, which hosts our database, sign-in, and photo storage
  • Mapbox, which provides the maps and globe
  • Apple and Google, for sign-in and for delivering push notifications

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not run ads.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app, under Settings. Deleting removes your profile, ratings, messages, stories, and push tokens. This cannot be undone.

Children

ROAM is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
